Shed FM Internet Radio goes live
A new online radio station, Shed FM, has gone live on the web, broadcasting non-stop new music, live sessions and chat 24/7. FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
PRLog (Press Release) – Jul 07, 2009 – Fans of new music will be excited to hear that a new Internet Radio station, Shed FM, has gone live. Broadcasting 24/7 online, the station is aimed at the 25-40 market, with exclusive live sessions, interviews with emerging artists, and hand-picked playlists.
Powered by Belgium-based website Radionomy, the station really is based from a Shed. Every day at 7pm, there are exclusive live sessions broadcast from the Paris-based Shed, while the UK-based Shed takes over for the rest of the day with non-stop music.
The daytime playlist features artists such as Feist, Radiohead and Blur alongside the likes of Carrie Haber, Le Galago, Bidgie Reef & The Gas and Marmaduke Dando. Every song has been ‘hand-picked’ by the Shed FM team with one idea in mind – “if we like it, we’ll play it”.
Shed FM’s Gareth Cartman said: “This is an exciting time for Internet Radio. Everyone can have their own radio station these days, but not everyone can commit to making their radio station a quality station. Here at Shed FM, all we want to do is promote the artists we like, and give people something new to listen to.
Initial audience figures have been encouraging, says Cartman, and adds that “the blend of our exclusive live sessions with non-stop music is already creating a buzz. Our daytime playlist is growing by the day, and in the evenings we go slightly more left-field, mixing jazz with dance and an eclectic mix of music.”

Sophie Cappere LIVE in the Shed
June 27, 2009 by sheddj
Filed under In the shed, Shows
Sophie Cappere joined us live in the Paris Shed just after the New Year to play three songs live, and chat with hosts Jonny Sly and Gareth Cartman.
Very little was known about Sophie back then – and very little is known about her even now. The elusive Ms Cappere, however, turns out to be one of the most accomplished recording artists who have ever come through the Shed doors.
Her first album, Parenthese Enchantee, is available for download on Jamendo.com in its entirity – free of charge. Sophie wrote all of the songs herself, and entered a studio to record them, with a resulting album that is as well produced and professional as any you’ll find in your local record store.
What’s even more amazing is that Sophie funded and oversaw the whole album herself. When she came into the Shed, she played throughout with a cold, and even agreed to be interviewed (almost) exclusively in English.
In the second part of this podcast, we also talk to Paris-based American actor Mike Stromme, who talks about life in the French capital, how he wound up in Paris, and what it’s like to be an American actor in France. Mike also takes us back to his days in LA, and Sophie stuck around for this second half of this fascinating podcast.
The Sophie / Mike podcasts will be running throughout the week on Shed.fm, from 19:00 BST every evening.
This week’s playlist

Marjolaine live in the Shed
Dave came with his violinist and eventually caved in to perform his hit “The Guest”, while Marjolaine stunned the Shed into silence with “Tais toi”, among others.
We’ve also got two editions of 30 minutes for you, with plenty of new music to get your ears around, and we’ve bulked up our playlist so that you’ve got non-stop music for the rest of the day.
After Dave and Marjolaine and the 30 Minutes Pods, we’ve also got a reading of “A Comic History of Great Britain”, from Librivox. This will be continuing throughout the week…

Shed Radio… going live
We’re about to go live here on Shed.fm – over the next few days, you’ll hear nothing but non-stop music that we’ve hand-picked ourselves, with some great unsigned bands, indie acts you may not have heard of, and everything that we like.
These include the likes of Rosemary, Marmaduke Dando, Radiohead, Fit and the Conniptions, Dazie Mae, Amelie, Headphone, Loudog, Theou Mounoukou, The Sway, Robin Grey, Le Galago and many, many more… It’s a bit of a mish-mash at the moment – with pop, rock, jazz, dance and everything mixed in, but it’ll give you an idea of what we’ve got coming up here over the new few months!
On Monday, we’ll kick off the live sessions with Dave and Marjolaine’s brilliant podcast throughout the week, as well as spoken word, 30 Minutes (as advertised in previous posts), and much more. Heck, we’ll even throw in a few jingles.
So tune in to the Shed, kick your shoes off and enjoy what we enjoy. Awesome.
Paris Shed: Dave Carroll and Marjolaine
It’s back to the Shed in Paris and one of our favourite ever live sessions from the days of Paris Link magazine – Dave Carroll and Marjolaine.
Jonny Sly is in the hotseat, joined by Gareth Cartman for two sessions of chat and live music with two of Paris’ leading lights. Dave Carroll has his arm twisted and is eventually forced to play ‘The Guest’ for his audience.
Marjolaine brings her low-fi cabaret-rock into the Shed and leaves her hosts dumbfounded and even gobsmacked at one point.
Check out our playlist and make sure you tune in when Dave Carroll and Marjolaine’s podcasts are on – parts one and two are now on rotation!
30 minutes – rock/pop… introducing Next To Beluga

Next To Beluga
Back in the Paris Shed, Jonny Sly picked Next To Beluga out as his entry for 2007’s EuroVirtual competition, and while the Danes might not have won the competition overall, they won the hearts of many of our regular listeners.
Copenhagen’s finest are back, now on shed.fm, with the pop-tastic Love Composer, and remain the band that the Cardigans could – and should – have become instead of going off into out and out rock. Proper sugar-coated pop songs. Their latest album, Out of Place, is available through Digivision, and you can buy it here on iTunes - we recommend that you do.
Next To Beluga are: Sara Futtrup Lund (lead + backing vocals + songwriter),
Sidsel Storm: (backing vocals + glockenspiel),
Karen Bach: (Keys + backing vocals),
Ole Lindholm: (drums),
Thomas Marcussen: (bass)
Also in this 30 minutes, you’ll find the brilliant, but sadly no longer with us, Kimlico, along with Major Major, Drunksouls, Marie Tueje and the brilliant accapella of Ruby Wood.
- Kimlico – Superhero
- Next to Beluga – Love Composer
- Drunksouls – No More Fighting
- Major Major – No Rhyme
- Amelie – Do It Over
- Marie Tueje – Killer in the Road
- Ruby Wood – The Fact is I Need You
30 minutes: rock/pop… introducing Headphone

Headphone
If you’ve ever been to Ghent, then you probably wouldn’t associate the city with rock music. With its canals, cafes and Flemish architecture, Ghent is a thriving student town, and home to the brilliant Headphone, whose latest single Yesmen kicks off our latest 30 Minutes.
Debut album Ghostwriter caught the imaginination locally, with Headphone topping the Studio Brussels charts for several weeks. A heady blend of pop, rock, electronica, Headphone’s music has been likened to Radiohead without the overdose.
Headphone are: Ian Marien (Lead Vocal / Guitar / Piano), Nico Steenkiste (Drums), Gerd Van Mulders (Keyboard / Guitar), Tom Barbier (Guitar / Keyboard) and Jan Goossens (Bass) and if they tickle your fancy, visit their official site and their myspace site.
Also in this 30 minutes, we’ve got the Balkan brilliance of the Penny Black Remedy, and a Paris-based singer-songwriter calling himself the Dada Weatherman whose latest album, The Green Waltz has been on our turntable all week. Links are available to all artists if you’re interested in finding out more about them or hearing more of their music. Ace or what?
- Headphone – Yesmen
- Show Without Punch – Wax and Coxcomb
- The Dada Weatherman – Song to Paris
- The Penny Black Remedy – 95 Charing Cross Road
- Moot – Dancing Nowhere
- Hedgehog Dilemma – Solitude
- Lea Velours – Want U
- A Jigsaw – Red Pony
